Competition: MLS
Market: New York Red Bulls win
Odds: 1/2 @ Pribet
Two sides who are battling it out at opposite ends of the Eastern Conference table, New York will welcome DC United to the Red Bull Arena in the early hours of Sunday.
Starting with the hosts, making a welcomed return to winning ways last weekend as they stormed their way to a thumping 3-0 romp against Toronto, New York will be looking to use that performance as a platform to build on. Battling it out at the top of the Eastern Conference table and cruising their way to a play-off ticket this season, the Red Bulls have suffered just a single defeat from any of their previous six MLS appearances. Opening June with a 1-0 victory against Orlando, Sandro Schwarz’s men will also be excited by their rampant success on home soil. Including a 3-1 win against Charlotte on May 30th, New York have collected 13 points from their previous five MLS matchups in front of their own supporters. Likewise, it should also be highlighted that Sunday’s hosts have not suffered a single defeat at the New York Arena since opening up the 2024 campaign. Landing a 4-1 victory when they last met DC United back on May 16th, the former Hertha Berlin boss will certainly be calling on a repeat performance here.
As for the visitors, while New York might be enjoying a real MLS flurry, DC United are at the heart of a real struggle. Last seen putting in a nightmare performance on home soil as they slumped to a 4-1 drumming at the hands of Houston, the Eagles are scrapping it out at the foot of the Eastern Conference standings. Signing off May with an action-packed 4-2 defeat away at Montreal, Troy Lesense’s men have failed to muster a single victory from any of their previous eight consecutive MLS appearances – a rut that stems back to May 12th. Likewise, along with losing all of their last three outings by an aggregate score of 6-1, the former New York boss faces a heavyweight challenge when he returns to the Red Bull Arena this weekend. Mustering just a single win over the past couple of months, DC United are rightfully pencilled in as a major underdog here. Hit with that 4-1 loss when they welcomed Sunday’s hosts to Audi Field back on May 16th, we are expecting a similar outcome here.
