Competition: A-League
Market: Both teams to score
Odds: 4/7 @ Pribet
Two sides who find themselves scrapping it out at the foot of the A-League table, Newcastle will welcome Adelaide to the McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday morning.
Starting with the hosts, while Newcastle might have been last seen snatching an action-packed 2-2 stalemate away at Perth, the Jets are enduring another public A-League struggle this season. Despite securing a 3-1 victory against Brisbane back on January 23rd, that is the only win that Robert Santon’s men have collected from any of their previous 11 appearances. Likewise, without a win from their last four showdowns at the McDonald Jones Stadium, the former Sydney coach will also have a real headache over his side’s rather glaring defensive issues. Including a 3-3 draw against Western Sydney last month, Newcastle have failed to muster a single A-League clean sheet since opening up the New Year. Friday’s hosts have also shipped at least a pair of goals in four of their previous five domestic appearances. It should also be highlighted, four of Newcastle’s last five contests in front of their own supporters have finished with both teams finding the net.
As for the visitors, while Adelaide might have clinched a shock bronze medal finish last season, the Reds have come crashing back down to earth in a worrying fashion. Last seen putting in another downbeat display as they fell to a 2-1 loss at home against Melbourne Victory, Carl Veart’s men have come under some increasing scrutiny. Opening March with an action-packed 3-2 defeat away at Wellington, Friday’s guests have collected just a single point from any of their previous seven A-League appearances. With that extended crisis stemming back to a 4-3 victory against Sydney on January 13th, it should also be noted that Adelaide have lost all of their last four showdowns by an aggregate score of 9-5. Showing their own glaring issues at the back, Veart’s side have also gained a reputation for their lively outcomes. With the Reds seeing all of their last five outings finish with both teams finding the net, we are expecting a similar outcome.
