Competition: A-League

Market: Both teams to score

Odds: 4/7 @ 1xBet

In what could prove to be an action-packed A-League showdown on Saturday morning, Newcastle will welcome Western United to the McDonald Jones Stadium.

Starting with the hosts, while Newcastle might have claimed a stunning 3-0 romp away at Wellington earlier in the month, the Jets have drastically struggled to find any kind of stability this season. Last seen putting in another worrying performance as they suffered a 3-1 drumming at the hands of Adelaide, it appears almost certain that Robert Santon’s side are destined for another bottom-half struggle in the New Year. Opening December with a 2-0 defeat against Melbourne City, Saturday’s hosts have recorded just a single win from any of their previous five A-League showdowns. Likewise, mustering just nine points from as many top-flight appearances this season, Newcastle have also gained a reputation for their continued struggles on home soil. Crashing out of the Australia Cup back on August 14th following a 3-2 defeat at home against Brisbane, Santon’s men are yet to record a single A-League victory in front of their own supporters since opening up the 2023/24 campaign.

As for the visitors, although Western United might have had their sights set on mounting a genuine top-half charge this season, John Aloisi’s men are enduring a public A-League nightmare. Sat rock-bottom of the table and coming under a huge amount of scrutiny, the former Brisbane boss faces a real uphill battle in the New Year. Last seen slumping to an action-packed 4-2 defeat against Sydney, the Tarneit-based outfit have remarkably lost seven of their previous eight top-flight appearances. With that extended crisis stemming all the way back to October 21st, Aloisi will also have a mounting headache over his side’s rather glaring defensive issues. Signing off November with a 3-1 drumming at home against Adelaide, it should also be highlighted that Western United have lost all of their last four away fixtures by an aggregate score of 14-2. With five of the previous six showdowns between Saturday’s opponents finishing with both teams finding the net, we are expecting a similar outcome this weekend.

Bet: Both teams to score at Newcastle Jets vs Western United 4/7 for Saturday’s A-League battle @ 1xBet
