Competition: League One
Market: Derby win
Odds: 7/10 @ BetUS
Looking to extend on their automatic promotion charge this weekend, Derby will travel to Sixfields when they meet Northampton on Saturday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, while Northampton might have been enjoying an eye-catching flurry on either side of opening the New Year, Jon Brady’s men have largely come crashing back down to earth. Last seen putting in another worrying performance as they fell to a 2-0 loss at the hands of Wycombe, the Cobblers are without a win from any of their previous five League One appearances. With their recent issues underlined by a woeful 5-1 drumming against Peterborough earlier in the month, Northampton have also recorded just a pair of victories from any of their last 12 straight contests – a run that stems back to January 23rd. Tumbling down the third-tier standings and almost sat in League One limbo, Saturday’s hosts have also shown some rather glaring issues on home soil. Including a 1-0 loss against Blackpool in their most recent showdown at Sixfields, it should also be noted that Brady’s side have registered just a single home win since back on New Year’s Day.
As for the visitors, although Derby might have eventually fallen short last season in their bid to book a play-off ticket, the Rams are enjoying a stellar League One romp this time around. Last seen putting in what could prove to be a season-defending performance on home soil as they secured a 1-0 victory against Bolton, Paul Warne’s men should be smelling the chance to make another statement here. Opening this weekend’s fixtures holding a four-point buffer in the automatic promotion chase, Derby have now won all of their previous four appearances on the bounce by an aggregate score of 9-1. Opening March with a thumping 3-0 victory against Port Vale, it should also be noted that Warne’s men have conceded just a single goal in almost 400 minutes of action. Tipped as a standout contender this weekend, Saturday’s guests should also be excited by their most recent meeting against Northampton. Storming their way to a 4-0 victory when they two sides last met back on October 31st, we are expecting a similar away win here.
