Bitesize Prediction: Norwich City vs Blackburn – 17/08/24

Competition: Championship

Market: Both teams to score

Odds: 2/3 @ BetUS

In what could prove to be a lively Championship showdown on Saturday afternoon, Norwich will welcome Blackburn to Carrow Road.

Starting with the hosts, extending on their EFL Cup adventure earlier in the week as they secured an action-packed 4-3 victory against League One outfit Stevenage, Norwich will be desperate to use that performance as a platform to build on. However, although the Canaries might have their sights firmly set on booking a play-off ticket this season, they did open the 2024/25 campaign with a worrying performance. Slumping to a 2-0 loss at the hands of Championship returners Oxford United, Johannes Thorup’s men will have plenty of mounting pressure on their shoulders. Signing off their pre-season preparations with a 3-1 drumming against Bundesliga side St. Pauli, Norwich have shown some extended defensive issues on either side of the summer break. Watching their play-off dreams come to a thumping end on May 16th as they were hit with a 4-0 defeat against Leeds, Saturday’s hosts have recorded just a single clean sheet from any of their previous seven showdowns against Championship opposition.

As for the visitors, while Blackburn might have spent large spells of last season in a battle to keep hold of their Championship status, the Rovers have come roaring back since opening up the 2024/25 campaign. Getting proceedings underway with a lively 4-2 victory at home against Derby, John Eustace’s men should find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high. Extending on their EFL Cup adventure earlier in the week as they stormed their way to a 6-1 romp away at Stockport, the former Birmingham boss will be calling on his squad to make another empathic statement here. Really impressing with their free-scoring performances over the past week, Blackburn should also be excited by an eye-catching record against Saturday’s hosts. Including a 3-1 win when they travelled to Carrow Road last season, Eustace’s side have lost just one of their previous six showdowns against Norwich. In a contest that could prove to be an enjoyable affair, we are backing chances to fall at both ends of the pitch.
