Competition: Championship

Market: Norwich City win

Odds: 7/11 @ BetUS

Desperate to make up some ground in the play-off chase, Norwich will welcome Oxford to Carrow Road on Friday night.

Starting with the hosts, suffering a last-gasp collapse away at Blackburn last weekend as they eventually had to settle for a 1-1 stalemate, Norwich are desperate seeking some recent stability. Although the Canaries might have signed off February with an action-packed 4-2 victory against Stoke, that is the only win that Johannes Hoff Thorup’s side have collected from any of their previous five Championship appearances. However, despite crashing out of the FA Cup on January 11th following a 4-0 drumming at the hands of Premier League outfit Brighton, Norwich will be excited by their rugged success on home soil. Including a 5-1 romp against Swansea on January 25th, Thorup’s camp have suffered just a single Championship defeat at Carrow Road since the middle of December. Knowing that they can move within touching distance of the play-off places on Friday night, Norwich face what is a must-win showdown in Norfolk.

As for the visitors, while Oxford might open this weekend’s fixtures holding a commanding seven-point buffer over the drop zone, Gary Rowett’s side are enduring a real wobble. Eventually falling to a dramatic 3-2 loss at home against Coventry last weekend, the former Millwall boss has seen his downbeat squad lose each of their previous three Championship appearances by an aggregate score of 9-2. Signing off February with consecutive 2-0 defeats against West Brom and Portsmouth, Oxford have also failed to win any of their last seven consecutive outings. With some in their camp now starting to look over their shoulder, Friday’s guests have also continued to show some glaring struggles away from the Kassam Stadium. Last seen on their travels getting hit with a 2-0 loss against West Brom, Rowett’s men have recorded just a sole Championship win on the road so far this season.
