Facing what appears to be a real must-win showdown on Saturday afternoon, Nottingham Forest will welcome Wolves to the City Ground.
Starting with the hosts, while Nottingham Forest might have opened April with a crucial 3-1 victory against Fulham, Nuno Espirito Santo’s men came crashing back down to earth last weekend. Eventually falling to a 3-1 loss at the hands of Champions League chasers Tottenham, the one-time European champions find themselves at the heart of a real relegation scrap. Opening up Saturday’s showdown at the City Ground with just their goal difference keeping them outside the drop zone, Forest have claimed just a single victory from any of their previous eight appearances across all competitions. Forced to settle for a 1-1 stalemate at home against Crystal Palace, the ex-Wolves boss will certainly face a must-win showdown here. However, remarkably recording just a single Premier League clean sheet since a 2-0 victory against Aston Villa on November 5th, Santo’s side have also gained a recent reputation for their lively outcomes. It should be highlighted, Forest have seen all of their last five consecutive Premier League matchups finish with both teams getting on the scoresheet.
As for the visitors, although Wolves might have opened the New Year with their sights firmly set on mounting a famous European charge, Gary O’Neil’s men have struggled to find much stability on either side of March’s international break. Left hugely frustrated last weekend as they eventually fell to a 2-1 loss at home against West Ham, the former Bournemouth boss has seen his squad muster just a single victory from any of their previous six appearances across all competitions. Suffering an infamous FA Cup collapse on March 16th as they were hit with a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Championship outfit Coventry, Wolves have also shown their own defensive issues. Likewise, along with collecting just a single point from their previous three Premier League showdowns outside the Midlands, O’Neil’s men have also failed to collect a single top-flight clean sheet on their travels over the past couple of months. With each of the last three meetings between Saturday’s opponents finishing with both teams finding the net, we are expecting a similar outcome from the City Ground here.
