Competition: Jupiler Pro

Market: Antwerp win

Odds: 4/5 @ 888sport

Two sides who find themselves battling it out at the opposite ends of the Jupiler Pro table, Antwerp will make the trip to Oostende on Wednesday evening.

Starting with the hosts, last seen putting in another downbeat display over the weekend as they slumped to a 2-1 loss away at fellow strugglers KV Mechelen, Dominik Thalhammer’s men are in the midst of a real nightmare. At the heart of a relegation scrap and opening the midweek fixtures sat one-point adrift in the drop zone, the Reds will know that they face another stern test here. Marking their return from the World Cup break with a 2-1 loss at the hands of Royale Union while on Belgium Cup duties, Oostende have lost each of their last four straight outings. Likewise, heading into the festive interval with a woeful performance as they were hit with a 6-0 drumming against Westerlo, Thalhammer will have a real headache over his side’s glaring defensive issues. in fact, Wednesday’s hosts are without a top-flight clean sheet since September 10th.

As for the visitors, after watching their eye-catching unbeaten run come to an abrupt end last weekend, Antwerp will be seeking an immediate response here. However, despite suffering a 2-0 loss against a high-flying Royale Union a few days ago, Mark van Bommel’s men are sat in pole position to claim another European finish this season. Marking their return from the World Cup break with a thumping 4-0 victory against St. Liege, the former Dutch icon will be excited by a rampant record against Wednesday’s opponents. In fact, along with claiming a 3-0 romp when they welcomed Oostende to the Bosuilstadion back on October 20th, Antwerp have won each of their previous three meetings by an aggregate score of 8-1. Given the recent gulf in class, we’re backing an away victory in midweek.

Bet: Antwerp 4/5 to beat Oostende in Wednesday’s Jupiler Pro showdown @ 888sport
