Competition: League One play-offs
Market: Both teams to score
Odds: 4/7 @ Pribet
Looking to finish off the job and book their spot in the final of this season’s play-off final, Oxford will travel to London Road on Wednesday night when they meet Peterborough.
Starting with the hosts, although Peterborough might have made real history on April 7th as they were crowned EFL Trophy champions following a 2-1 victory against Wycombe at Wembley, the Posh have struggled with their consistency over the past month. Suffering a 1-0 loss when they travelled to Oxford for their first-leg showdown over the weekend, Darren Ferguson’s men have claimed just a pair of wins from their previous six appearances against League One opposition. Signing off their regular-season adventure with an action-packed 3-3 stalemate against Bolton, Wednesday’s hosts will certainly be excited by the prospect of making a return to London Road here. Storming their way to a 4-1 romp against Fleetwood on April 16th, Peterborough collected seven points from their final three League One showdowns in front of their own supporters. It should also be noted, Ferguson’s side have seen 11 of their last 13 matchups at London Road finish with both teams getting on the scoresheet.
As for the visitors, although Oxford might have opened up the New Year tipped as a real outside contender in the play-off chase, Des Buckingham’s men have come roaring back. Collecting what could turn out to be a crucial first-leg advantage last week as they snatched that 1-0 victory on home soil, the U’s have suffered just a single defeat from any of their previous nine appearances against League One opposition – a run that stems back to March 12th. Signing off their regular-season adventure with an eye-catching 2-1 win away at Exeter, Wednesday’s guests will be confident of making another statement here. Likewise, storming their way to a 4-0 romp against Burton last month, it should also be highlighted that Oxford collected 10 points from their final four showdowns away from the Kassam Stadium. Although we might be set for a nail-biting affair from London Road, we are expecting both teams to find the net.
