Competition: MLS
Market: Portland Timbers win
Odds: 19/20 @ 888sport
Desperate to make it back-to-back MLS victories in the early hours of Thursday, Portland will welcome Houston to Providence Park.
Starting with the hosts, managing to make a much-needed return to winning ways last weekend, Portland should be smelling the chance to build off of that success here. Eventually cruising their way to an eye-catching 3-0 romp against Colorado at Providence Park, Head Coach Giovanni Savarese will be desperate for his side to find some stability. Still battling it out at the foot of the Western Conference table, the Timbers should at least be boosted by their largely rugged displays on home soil. Including that 3-0 victory against the Rapids a few days ago, Colorado have lost just one of their last four domestic contests in front of their own supporters. With that run underlined by a stellar 7-2 win against Sporting KC on May 14th, it should also be noted that Thursday’s hosts have won each of their last four meetings against Houston in Oregon.
As for the visitors, also managing to make a welcomed return to winning ways last weekend, Houston find themselves in a very similar position to Thursday’s opponents. Eventually claiming a deserved 2-0 loss at home against Chicago, the Dynamo’s also drew a line under a three-match MLS losing run on either side of June’s international break. However, while El Naranja might have found a much-needed boost a few days ago, it should be noted that they hold a hugely worrying record against their Western Conference rivals. Despite grabbing a 0-0 stalemate when the two sides last faced off back on April 16th, they have failed to win any of their previous seven meetings against Portland. Likewise, losing each of their last four trips to Providence Park, a run that stems back to 2017, we’re backing a home victory in the early hours of Thursday.
