Competition: Taca de Portugal
Market: Both teams to score
Odds: 1/1 @ BetUS
With a spot in the final of this season’s Taca de Portugal still very much up for grabs on Wednesday night, Porto will welcome Guimaraes to the Estadio do Dragao.
Starting with the hosts, although Porto might have opened the New Year in the midst of a real purple patch, the Dragons have largely struggled with their consistency over recent times. Suffering real Champions League heartbreak at the hands of Premier League giants Arsenal last month as they watched their European heartbreak come to and end, Sergio Conceicao’s men are seeking a much-needed boost here. While the Portuguese giants might have claimed a gritty 1-0 victory when they travelled to Guimaraes on April 3rd, that is the only win that they have recorded from any of their previous four appearances across all competitions since returning from March’s international break. Failing to pick up any kind of momentum over the weekend and missing out on a golden opportunity as they eventually had to settle for an action-packed 2-2 stalemate against Famalicao, Porto have also shown some recent defensive struggles. In fact, Wednesday’s hosts have registered just a single win from any of their last six consecutive outings.
As for the visitors, although Guimaraes might have suffered a first-leg 1-0 loss when they welcomed Porto to town earlier in the month, Alvaro Pacheco’s men have continued to shine this season. With their sights firmly set on booking a European ticket, the Conquerors have suffered just a single defeat from any of their previous seven appearances across all competitions. Likewise, the Whites have certainly gained a reputation for their extended success on the road. Along with a 2-1 win against Chaves prior to March’s international break, they have collected 13 points from their last five Primeira Liga showdowns away from the Afonso Henriques Stadium. Despite seeking a real Taca de Portugal miracle here, Guimaraes will certainly be excited by their most recent trip to the Estadio do Dragao. Claiming a famous 2-1 victory when they travelled to Porto while in top-flight action on April 7th, Pacheco’s men will be desperate to spring another iconic upset in midweek.
