Competition: League One

Looking to move one step closer to a Championship return this season, Wigan will make the trip to Fratton Park on Tuesday night when they meet Portsmouth.
Starting with the hosts, managing to pick up a thumping 3-1 win at home against Gillingham a few days ago, it is fair to say that Portsmouth have endured a rollercoaster campaign at Fratton Park. However, while Danny Cowley’s side might not be able to clinch a play-off spot this season, they are enjoying a real April flurry. Including what was a shocking 3-0 romp against Rotherham, the former Lincoln boss has seen his side collect 10 points from their last four League One contests. Gaining a reputation for their success in the final third and bagging a trio of strikes in three of their last four outings, Portsmouth will be desperate to keep up their recent momentum here. Likewise, it should also be highlighted, Tuesday’s hosts have seen nine of their previous 10 contests at Fratton Park finish with over 2.5 goals.
As for the visitors, while Wigan might know that they could secure their Championship return in midweek, the Latics are appearing to crawl their way over the finish line. Last seen over the weekend having to settle for a 1-1 draw against Plymouth on home soil, Leam Richardson’s men have failed to win any of their last four League One contests. With their recent wobble highlighted by a 2-1 loss against Cambridge earlier in the month, the Manchester-based outfit could face a stern test at Fratton Park here. However, although Wigan might have managed to collect just a pair of victories since the middle of March, they will be boosted by their most recent meeting against Pompey. Including a deserved victory at the DW back in August, it should also be noted that Wigan landed a 2-1 win the last time they made the trip to the south coast.
