Bitesize Prediction: Preston vs Southampton – 25/10/23

Competition: Championship

Market: Southampton draw no bet

Odds: 4/6 @ BetUS

Hoping to extend their stay in the play-off places on Wednesday night, Southampton will make the trip to Deepdale when they meet Preston.

Starting with the hosts, while Preston might have come flying out of the traps when opening up the 2023/24 campaign, it is fair to say the the Lilywhites have come crashing back down to earth. Putting in another worrying performance over the weekend as they eventually had to settle for a 1-1 stalemate at home against Millwall, the Lancashire-based outfit are now without a single victory from any of their previous five showdowns against Championship opposition. With their extended wobble stemming all the way back to September 19th, Lowe will have a mounting headache over his side’s continued defensive issues. Signing off September with a woeful 4-0 drumming at home against West Brom, the midweek hosts have shipped 13 strikes on their five-match winless rut. Likewise, hit with a 3-1 loss when they last met Southampton back in 2019, it should also be noted that the Whites have lost each of their previous four contests against the Saints by an aggregate score of 11-5.

As for the visitors, although Southampton might have found themselves at the heart of a public nightmare last month, Russell Martin’s side have come roaring back. Last seen over the weekend putting in another eye-catching performance as they claimed a 2-1 win away at Hull, the former Swansea boss has seen his squad muster 10 points from their previous four Championship appearances. Signing off September with a stellar 3-1 win against Leeds, the Saints still have their sights set on securing an immediate Premier League return this season. Likewise, landing back-to-back victories away from St. Mary’s, Southampton should be smelling the chance to lay down another marker on the road. With attacking talisman Adam Armstrong already notching seven Championship strikes and tipped among the leading contenders in this year’s Golden Boot chase, Martin’s side will be looking to cash in on a Preston squad that are in the midst of a real struggle. Given the recent gulf in class, we are backing an away draw no bet here.

Bet: Southampton draw no bet against Preston 4/6 for Wednesday’s Championship battle @ BetUS
