Two sides who are looking to drag themselves away from a looming relegation scrap, Qingdao Hainiu will welcome Meizhou Hakka to the
Starting with the hosts, while Qingdao Hainiu might have opened July with a much-needed 3-1 victory against Qingdao West Coast, Yasen Petrov’s men have drastically struggled to find any kind of fluidity, Crashing out of the FA Cup earlier in the month following an infamous 2-0 defeat at home against second-tier outfit Nanjing City, the former Bulgaria boss could have some mounting pressure on his shoulders. Putting in a nightmare performance last weekend as they slumped to a woeful 5-0 drumming at the hands of title contenders Shanghai Port, the Shandong-based outfit have also continued to show some glaring defensive issues. Including another 5-0 loss against Changchun Yatai on June 30th, Sunday’s hosts have recorded just a single Super League clean sheet since the middle of April. Likewise, Petrov’s side have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their previous seven consecutive matchups in front of their own supporters.
As for the visitors, mounting a sensational second-half comeback away at Qingdao West Coast last weekend as they eventually snatched a 3-3 stalemate, Meizhou Hakka will be looking to use that comeback as a platform to build on. However, despite securing a 2-1 victory at home against Nantong earlier in the month, that is the only win that Milan Ristic’s side have recorded from their previous eight appearances across all competitions. Opening July with a routine 4-0 drumming against Zhejiang Professional, the Reds have also shown their own respective defensive struggles. Signing off June with back-to-back 3-0 defeats against Henan and Shanghai Shenhua, Sunday’s guests have recorded just a sole clean sheet over the past two months. It’s also worth highlighted, Meizhou Hakka have conceded 11 goals in just their last four appearances away from the Huitang Stadium. Two camps who have shown their own respective issues at the back, we could be treated to an enjoyable affair here.
