Competition: Chinese Super League
Market: Both teams to score
Odds: 4/7 @ Pribet
Two sides who find themselves battling it out at opposite ends of the Super League table, Beijing Guoan will travel to Qingdao West Coast on Sunday lunchtime.
Starting with the hosts, while Qingdao West Coast might have secured a Super League return this season, Shao Jiayi’s men have a real battle on their hands in the race to keep hold of their top-flight status. Although the Yellows might have secured an action-packed 5-2 victory against Zhejiang Professional on July 13th, it appears that might have been nothing more than a minor boost for the Super League relegation scrappers. Crashing out of FA Cup last month following a 4-0 drumming at home against local rivals Shandong Taishan, Sunday’s hosts have collected just a single win from any of their previous eight appearances across all competitions. With just their goal difference keeping them out of the drop zone, Qingdao, Jiayi’s side have also shown some glaring issues at the back. In fact, they have failed to record a single clean sheet since the start of May.
As for the visitors, making an immediate return to winning ways last week as they secured an impressive 2-1 victory at home against Shanghai Shenhua, Beijing will now have their sights set on making up some ground in the top-three chase. Extending on their FA Cup adventure on July 17th thanks to a 3-1 win against Wuxi Wugou, Ricardo Soares’ men have now won three of their previous four appearances across all competitions. Battling it out at the top of the Super League table, the Greens will certainly be excited by a rampant record against Sunday’s hosts. In fact, the Imperial Guard have won their two historic showdowns against Qingdao by a 4-1 scoreline. However, despite smelling a potential opportunity here, Beijing are seeking some recent stability on their travels. Including a 5-1 drumming away at Shanghai Port on July 12th, they have won just a pair of their previous eight matchups away from the Workers Stadium.
