Competition: Championship
Market: QPR win
Odds: 1/1 @ BetUS
Looking to extend on their recent charge, QPR will welcome Oxford United to west London on Wednesday night.
Starting with the hosts, putting in a dominant display last weekend, QPR will be desperately seeking a repeat outcome here. Putting in a season-best performance as they cruised their way to a 3-0 romp against Norwich, the Hoops have dragged themselves out of the relegation zone and now have a major platform to build on. Although Marti Cifuentes’ men might have shown some glaring issues prior to November’s international break, they do appear to have turned a recent corner. Signing off November with a rugged 2-0 win against Cardiff, QPR are unbeaten in each of their previous four Championship appearances and will be smelling another golden opportunity here. Excited for another showdown at Loftus Road in midweek, Wednesday’s hosts have also impressed with their recent defensive steel. In fact, the former Hammarby boss has seen his squad record three consecutive Championship clean sheets. Enjoying their brightest run of the campaign, QPR will be confident of making another statement here.
As for the visitors, while Oxford might have secured a Championship return for this season, the Yellows have a real battle on their hands in the race to keep hold of their second-tier status. Marking their return from November’s international break with a woeful 6-2 drumming at home against Middlesbrough, Des Buckingham’s men have collected just a single point from any of their previous four appearances. With many tipping Wednesday’s guests as a leading relegation contender this season, Oxford have continued to gain a reputation for their defensive issues. Signing off November with a routine 3-0 loss at the hands of Sheffield United, Buckingham’s downbeat squad have already conceded 28 Championship goals. It should also be noted, the former Mumbai City boss has seen his squad muster just a single win from any of their previous 13 straight appearances – a run that stems all the way back to September 14th. Given what has been a recent gulf in class, we are backing a home victory in west London.
