Competition: Championship
Market: Goal to be score in both halves
Odds: 1/1 @ BetUS
Two sides who will be looking to make an opening weekend statement on Saturday lunchtime, QPR will welcome West Brom to west London.
Starting with the hosts, while QPR might have opened up 2024 facing a real battle to keep hold of their Championship status, the Hoops embarked on what was a sensational end to proceedings. Storming their way to second-tier safety and gaining plenty of plaudits, Marti Cifuentes’ men will simply be looking to carry on from where they left off back in May. Signing off the 2023/24 campaign with a 2-1 victory against Coventry, the former Hammarby boss saw his squad win all of their final three Championship appearances. Making an almighty statement on April 26th as they claimed a 4-0 romp against Leeds, QPR also lost just a pair of their final nine second-tier matchups. Although the Londoners might have lost all of their final three pre-season matchups this summer, Cifuentes’ side will be excited to make a return to Loftus Road this weekend. Including a 2-1 win against Birmingham on March 29th, it should be highlighted that Saturday’s hosts collected nine points from their last four Championship showdowns in front of their own supporters.
As for the visitors, suffering play-off heartbreak back on May 17th as they suffered a 3-1 loss against eventual winners Southampton, West Brom have their sights set on mounting another promotion charge this time around. However, signing off their pre-season preparations with a 4-1 drumming away at local rivals Birmingham, Carlos Corberan’s men endured plenty of summer frustration. Losing five of their six friendly appearances and failing to muster a single clean sheet, the former Huddersfield boss has some real questions that need answering. Including a 3-0 loss against relegation scrappers Sheffield Wednesday on April 27th, West Brom recorded just a sole win from any of their final six matchups against Championship opposition last season. Likewise, along with losing their last three second-tier showdowns away from the Hawthorns by an aggregate score of 8-2, they also collected just a single away victory since back on February 20th.
