With Old Firm bragging rights up for grabs on Sunday lunchtime, Rangers will welcome bitter rivals Celtic to Ibrox in what could be another lively affair.
Starting with the hosts, last seen prior to the international break mounting a second-half comeback as they secured a 2-1 win away at Dundee FC, the mood in Rangers’ camp should be at a real high. Extending on their Europa League adventure away at Serbian outfit Red Star Belgrade thanks to a 4-2 aggregate win, new boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst has seen his side win five of their last six matchups across all formats. However, opening this weekend’s Old Firm derby sat three points adrift of their bitter rivals, the defending Scottish champions should be boosted by their continued success at Ibrox. Including that action-packed 2-2 draw against German heavyweights Borussia Dortmund on February 24th, Rangers are unbeaten on home soil since a 3-1 loss against Hibernian back in November.
As for the visitors, last seen heading into the international break with a thumping 4-0 win against Ross County on home soil, Celtic really are enjoying quite the purple patch under Ange Postecoglou. Storming their way to the top of the Premiership table, the Hoops mark their return to action at Ibrox in the midst of a four-match winning run. Knowing just how important three points could be on Sunday lunchtime, the one-time Melbourne Victory boss has also seen his side gain a reputation for their recent displays in the final third. Including back-to-back 3-0 and 3-1 victories against Dundee United and Livingston last month, it’s worth keeping an eye out for the red-hot Georgios Giakoumakis here. Including a hat-trick against Ross County last time out, the 27-year-old has remarkably bagged eight goals in his last four domestic outings.
