Competition: La Liga

Market: Valencia double chance

Odds: 7/10 @ BetUS

Looking to extend on their remarkable resurge this weekend, Valencia will travel to Rayo Vallecano on Saturday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, while Rayo Vallecano might have underlined their status as one of Spain’s surprise packages this season, Inigo Perez’s men do have the feel of a squad limping their way over the finishing line. Last seen suffering a collapse away at Athletic Bilbao as they fell to a 3-1 defeat in the Basque Country, the Little Thunderbolts hold just a one-point buffer from dropping out the top-half. Coming under a huge amount of scrutiny earlier in the month as they slumped to a 4-0 drumming at the hands of Espanyol, the Madrid-based outfit should be bracing themselves for another tricky test this week. In fact, despite marking their return from March’s international break with a 2-0 victory away at Alaves, that is the only win that Rayo Vallecano have collected from any of their previous eight La Liga appearances. It should also be highlighted, Saturday’s hosts have registered just a sole-point from any of their last four consecutive showdowns in the Spanish capital.

As for the visitors, while Carlos Corberan might have only arrived at the Mestalla over the festive period, Valencia have enjoyed a sensational resurge under the former Huddersfield boss. Skyrocketing their way up the La Liga standings, Los Ches have rightfully received a string of praise from across Spain’s elite. Putting in another rugged performance last weekend as they clinched a 1-0 victory at home against Sevilla, the mood in their camp is certainly at a red-hot high. Laying down a famous marker earlier in the month as they snatched a last-gasp 2-1 win away at defending champions Real Madrid, Valencia have now won all of their previous three consecutive La Liga appearances. Likewise, along with mustering 13 points from their last five top-flight battles, it should also be noted that Corberan’s high-flying squad have lost just one of their last 10 La Liga showdowns. Given what has been a huge recent gulf in class, we are backing an away double chance on Saturday afternoon.
