Competition: Championship
Market: Ipswich win
Odds: 3/5 @ BetUS
Looking to make an immediate return to winning ways on Tuesday night, Ipswich will make the trip to Yorkshire when they meet Rotherham.
Starting with the hosts, while Rotherham might have eventually clung to their Championship status last season, the Millers are once again tipped as a leading relegation contender this time around. Missing out on what they had billed as a must-win showdown over the weekend as they eventually had to settle for a 1-1 stalemate against fellow strugglers QPR, Matt Taylor’s men will be bracing themselves for another stern examination here. Signing off October with a nightmare 2-0 defeat at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday, the Yorkshire-based outfit have recorded just a single win from any of their last nine appearances across all competitions. With their extended rut stemming all the way back to September 2nd, Rotherham will also be concerned by their most recent showdown against Tuesday’s guests. When the two sides last met back in January, Taylor’s men slumped to a routine 4-1 drumming at Portman Road. Already sat five points adrift of safety, the Millers are rightfully pencilled in as a landslide underdog in midweek.
As for the visitors, while Ipswich might have mounted a dramatic late comeback away at Birmingham over the weekend, Kieran McKenna’s side would have been disappointed after eventually settling for an action-packed 2-2 draw at St. Andrew’s. Nevertheless, enjoying what has been a record-breaking Championship flurry since making their second-tier return this season, the one-time Manchester United coach will be smelling a golden opportunity on Tuesday night. Leading the chase in the automatic promotion hunt and riding what has been a famous wave of momentum, the Blues have suffered just a single Championship defeat so far this season. Knowing that another victory in Yorkshire would see them widen their buffer in the top-two chase to double digits, Ipswich will be looking to make another second-tier statement at the New York Stadium. Storming their way to that 4-1 romp when they welcomed Rotherham to Portman Road back on January 7th, we are expecting a similar outcome for the promotion contenders here.
