In what is a real relegation six-pointer at the foot of the Championship table, Rotherham will welcome QPR to the New York Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, while Rotherham might have been smelling the chance to make a crucial statement last week, the Millers put in what was a worrying performance. Eventually getting hit with a costly 2-0 loss away at fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday, the Yorkshire-based outfit find themselves tipped as a leading relegation contender this time around. Mustering just a single win from any of their previous eight Championship appearances – a run that stems back to the start of September – Matt Taylor’s side face what is another must-win battle this weekend. However, despite gaining a reputation for their extended issues on the road, Rotherham should take some solace from their recent success at the New York Stadium. Last seen in front of their own supporters landing a 2-0 victory against Coventry, Taylor’s side have lost just one of their previous four contests in Yorkshire. With that run highlighted by a 2-1 win against Norwich on September 2nd, it should also be noted that the Millers have also seen all of their last seven home fixtures finish with over 1.5 goals.
As for the visitors, while QPR might have eventually limped their way over the finish line last season as they just about clung to their Championship status, the Hoops are enduring another public struggle. Last seen getting hit with a 2-1 loss at home against runaway leaders Leicester, that result was enough to cost Gareth Ainsworth his position in west London. At the heart of another relegation scrap and collecting just eight points from their opening 14 Championship appearances, QPR have lost each of their previous six straight contests – a run that stems back to September 22nd. With their woeful slump highlighted by a 4-0 drumming at the hands of Blackburn last month, Saturday’s guests have shown some rather glaring defensive struggles. In fact, the Londoners have shipped 13 strikes on their six-match losing run. Without a single Championship win to their name since a 2-0 victory away at Middlesbrough back on September 2nd, QPR face what is a season-defining showdown this weekend. It should be noted, with each of the last eight meetings between Saturday’s opponents finishing with over 1.5 goals, we are expecting a similar outcome here.
