Competition: Championship
Market: Over 1.5 goals
Odds: 2/5 @ Pribet
Desperate to claim a Championship boost in midweek, West Brom will travel to the New York Stadium when they meet Rotherham on Tuesday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Rotherham might have eventually clung to their Championship status last season, it appears that the Millers are facing another major uphill struggle this time around. Last seen over the weekend getting hit with a 2-1 loss at the hands of Swansea, interim boss Wayne Carlisle finds his downbeat squad sat rock-bottom of the table and rightfully tipped as a leading relegation contender. Mustering just 13 points from their first 20 Championship appearances this season, the Yorkshire-based outfit are also without a win from any of their previous eight straight outings. With that extended nightmare stemming all the way back to October 25th, Rotherham have also gained a reputation for their rather glaring defensive issues. Shipping 39 goals since opening up the 2023/24 campaign, Tuesday’s hosts have also recorded just a single clean sheet in front of their own supporters so far this season. It should also be highlighted, Rotherham have seen all of their first 11 home fixtures across all competitions finish with over 1.5 goals.
As for the visitors, while West Brom might still find themselves leading the chase in the play-off hunt, the Baggies are seeking a recent boost. Last seen over the weekend slumping to a 2-1 loss against Sunderland, Carlos Corberan’s men have now suffered back-to-back Championship defeats for the first time since the start of August. Desperately looking to shore up their spot in the top-six chase, the former Huddersfield boss should be concerned by his side’s most recent showdown against Tuesday’s hosts. Hit with a shock 3-1 loss when they travelled to the New York Stadium back on April 7th, West Brom will have plenty of exceptions on their shoulders here. Despite marking their return from November’s international break with a flurry, Corberan’s side have shown some extended inconsistencies on the road. Including their 2-1 loss away at Sunderland over the weekend, the Baggies have won just a trio of contests away from the Hawthorns since way back on April 18th.
