Looking to make an immediate return to winning ways on Sunday afternoon, Monza will make the trip to a struggling Salernitana.
Starting with the hosts, while Salernitana might have managed to sign off January with a much-needed 2-1 victory away at Leece, new boss Paulo Sousa knows that he faces a real uphill struggle in 2023. Last seen putting in another toothless display as they slumped to a 2-0 loss at home against Lazio, the one-time Roma boss finds his side at the heart of a relegation scrap. With many across Italy tipping the Garnets as a leading contender in this season’s bottom-three scrap, Sousa’s side have lost each of their last three Serie A matchups by an aggregate score of 6-0. Likewise, along with losing five of their previous six top-flight battles, Salernitana have recorded just a single domestic victory since opening 2023. With their nightmare rut highlighted by an infamous 8-2 drumming at the hands of Atalanta, the Campania-based outfit should face another tough test here.
As for the visitors, while Monza might have been disappointed after getting hit with a 1-0 loss at home against AC Milan, the mood in their camp should be at a real high. Continuing to impress since making their Serie A return this season, Raffaele Palladino’s men find themselves sat just a single point adrift of breaking into the top-half. Losing just one of their previous five top-flight matchups – a run that stems back to January 19th – the Biancorossi should be smelling a real chance here. In fact, collecting nine points from their last four showdowns away from the Stadio Brianteo, Monza should also be boosted by a rampant record against Sunday’s hosts. Including a 3-0 romp when the two sides last met back on November 11th, it should be noted that Palladino’s side have won each of their last three contests against Salernitana.
