Competition: MLS
Market: San Jose Earthquakes win
Odds: 21/20 @ 888sport
Two sides who find themselves battling it out at the foot of the Western Conference, San Jose will welcome Houston to PayPal Park in the early hours of Monday.
Starting with the hosts, while San Jose might still find themselves in an uphill battle if they’re to clinch a Final Series spot this season, they are enjoying an impressive bounce. Last seen laying down a real marker as they eventually claimed an action-packed 3-2 victory against local rivals LA Galaxy on the road, interim boss Alex Covelo should be smelling another chance on Monday. Losing just one of their last five MLS matchups, the Earthquakes have also gained a reputation for their recent success at PayPal Park. Grabbing a 2-1 victory against Chicago in their last showdown on home soil, San Jose are remarkably unbeaten in each of their last nine contests in California. Likewise, now winning five of their last six appearances in front of their own supporters, including a 3-2 win against Portland back in May, a home win can be found at attractive odds here.
As for the visitors, although Houston might also be battling it out at the foot of the Western Conference, the Dynamo’s are in the midst of a worrying rut. Putting in another downbeat display earlier in the week as they were hit with a deserved 3-1 loss away at Austin, Paulo Nagamura’s men have now collected just a single point from their last four MLS matchups. With that run highlighted by back-to-back 2-1 defeats against Charlotte and Portland, Monday’s guests will know that they face a real task here. Likewise, including that 3-1 loss against Austin last time out, it should be noted that Houston have only continued to show some woeful problems on the road. Along with losing each of their last five domestic showdowns away from the PNC Stadium, Nagamura’s struggling squad have also collected just a single win on their travels since the start of April.
