Competition: MLS
Market: San Jose Earthquakes double chance
Odds: 4/5 @ 888sport
Hoping to widen their buffer in the Final Series places this weekend, San Jose Earthquakes will welcome LA Galaxy to PayPal Park in the early hours of Sunday.
Starting with the hosts, while San Jose might have been last seen snatching a point against Dallas, it does not cover what has been a nightmare campaign for the Earthquakes. Sat rock-bottom of the Western Conference table and with just a pair of victories to their name since the middle of July, Luchi Gonzalez’s men should be glad to make a return to home soil here. While their nightmare run of form is highlighted by a 6-0 drumming away at Cincinnati earlier in the month, the California-based outfit have enjoyed a recent boost at PayPal Park. Including a shock 2-1 win against MLS giants Los Angeles on August 20th, San Jose have lost just one of their previous six contests in front of their own supporters. Holding a rather rampant record against Sunday’s guests, some in Gonzalez’s camp could be smelling the chance to spring an upset.
As for the visitors, managing to make a much-welcomed return to winning ways last weekend, LA Galaxy will be desperate to prove that was not just a minor boost. Eventually picking up a 4-1 victory at home against Colorado, that result brought an end to their four-match winless run. However, while the Whites might still find themselves sat in pole position to clinch a Final Series spot this season, Greg Vanney’s men have continued to show some rather glaring issues on the road. Last seen on their travels getting hit with a 3-0 drumming at the hands of Vancouver on September 14th, the Galaxy have remarkably picked up just a single MLS away win since the start of May. Likewise, it should also be noted, suffering a 3-2 loss when they faced off against their California rivals back in July, LA have lost back-to-back meetings against San Jose.
