Competition: Brazil Serie B

Market: Santos win

Odds: 8/11 @ BetUS

Hoping to extend their buffer at the top of the Serie B table, Santos will welcome Sport Recife to the Vila Belmiro in the early hours of Saturday.

Starting with the hosts, although Santos might have lost their Serie A status last season, it appears that the Piexe are storming their way to an immediate top-flight return. With the mood in their camp at a red-hot high, Fabio Carille’s men have come roaring back from their brief June wobble. Laying down a real marker on July 23rd as they claimed a 4-0 romp against Coritiba, the Whites are unbeaten in all of their previous eight Serie B appearances and find themselves leading the chase at the top of the table. Conceding just a pair of goals on their eight-match flurry, the former Corinthians boss will also be excited by his side’s continued success on home soil. Including a 2-0 win against Goias on June 19th, Santos have won all of their previous four consecutive Serie B showdowns at the Vila Belmiro by an aggregate score of 9-0. It should also be highlighted, Carille’s side have won 12 of their last 13 home fixtures across all competitions.

As for the visitors, putting in an eye-catching display last weekend as they secured a routine 3-1 victory at home against Ponte Preta, Sport Recife will be hoping to use that performance as a platform to build on. While the Lions might find themselves within striking distance of breaking into the promotion places, Mariano Soso’s men are seeking some recent stability. Mustering just a pair of victories from any of their previous seven Serie B appearances, the former San Lorenzo boss will also have a mounting headache over his side’s extended struggles on the road. Including a thumping 3-0 drumming at the hands of Goias when opening June, Sport Recife have recorded just a sole win from any of their last seven away fixtures – a run that stems back to May 4th. It should also be highlighted, Soso’s men have collected just a single point from any of their previous three trips to the Vila Belmiro.
