Two sides who find themselves battling it out at opposite ends of the Western Conference table, Seattle will welcome Sporting Kansas to Lumen Field on Sunday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Seattle might have been disappointed after only grabbing a single point away at Real Salt Lake last weekend, the Sounders are enjoying what has been a largely impressive start to the new campaign. Currently sat at the top of the Western Conference table and already putting 20 points on the board from their opening 10 appearances, Brian Schmetzer’s side have lost just one of their previous eight domestic appearances across all competitions. Glad to make a return to Lumen Field on Sunday night, the Greens have continued on a real romp in Washington. Last seen in front of their own supporters claiming a remarkable 5-4 victory against San Diego Loyal while on US Open Cup duties, Seattle have collected 13 points from their opening five MLS showdown on home soil. With that rampant run highlighted by a 4-0 victory against the Colorado Rapids, Schmetzer’s men should be smelling a real chance here.
As for the visitors, while Sporting Kansas might have extended on their US Open Cup adventure last month, the Wizards find themselves at the heart of a woeful MLS rut. Last seen putting in another worrying display on home soil as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Montreal, Peter Vermes’ side are remarkably yet to claim a single MLS victory since opening up the 2023 campaign. Coming under a huge amount of scrutiny and sat rock-bottom of the Western Conference table, the Missouri-based outfit have continued to gain a reputation for their glaring defensive struggles. Knowing that they face a huge challenge when they travel to Lumen Field this weekend, Sporting Kansas should also be worried by their most recent meeting against a high-flying Seattle. Hit with a 4-1 drumming when they welcomed the Western leaders to town on March 25th, a similar home victory can be found at appealing odds on Sunday night.
