Hoping to try and widen their buffer in the Final Series spots on Saturday night, Seattle will welcome Sporting KC to Lumen Field when this weekend’s MLS fixtures get underway.
Starting with the hosts, while Seattle might have been disappointed to have only collected a single point on home soil last weekend, the Greens should still find the mood in their camp at a high. Despite throwing away the lead late on and having to settle for a 1-1 draw against LAFC, the Sounders are sat in pole position to clinch a Final Series spot this season. Marking their return from June’s international break with a thumping display as they stormed their way to a 4-0 romp against Vancouver, Head Coach Brian Schmetzer has seen his side lose just one of their last six domestic matchups. With their recent run highlighted by a 2-1 victory against Charlotte last month, Saturday’s hosts have continued to shine on home soil. Schmetzer’s squad have collected 10 points from their last four MLS showdowns at Lumen Field.
As for the visitors, managing to make a welcomed return to winning ways last weekend, Sporting KC will be looking to build off of that display here. Eventually picking up an eye-catching 2-1 win away at Nashville, the Wizards do still have the feel of a side seeking some stability. Still battling it out at the foot of the Western Conference table, Head Coach Peter Vermes should be boosted by a shock record against Saturday’s opponents. Claiming a lively 2-1 victory when the two sides faced off at Lumen Field, Sporting have won four of their last five meeting against Seattle, a run that stems back to 2018. However, in a contest that does famously produce plenty of chances, it should be noted each of the previous seven meetings have finished with both teams finding the net.
