Competition: La Liga
Market: Sevilla win
Odds: 4/6 @ Pribet
In desperate need on a much-needed boost on Sunday evening, Sevilla will welcome Las Palmas to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
Starting with the hosts, while Sevilla might have eventually breezed their way to La Liga safety last season, it is no secret that Jose Luis Mendilibar’s men are in the midst of another public crisis. Dealing with some major issues behind the scenes, Los Nervionenses know that they have a huge amount of pressure on their shoulders. Last seen putting in another nightmare performance as they were hit with a shock 2-1 loss at home against Girona on August 28th, the former Alaves boss will have a mounting headache over his side’s glaring defensive struggles. Opening the 2023/24 campaign with another 2-1 defeat at home against Valencia, Mendilibar’s squad have lost each of their first three La Liga appearances and open this weekend’s fixtures sat rock-bottom of the table. Yet to put a single point on the board when returning from the international break here, Sunday’s hosts have shipped eight strikes on their three-match losing run. Facing what is a must-win showdown here, Sevilla can not afford another slip-up at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
As for the visitors, although Las Palmas might have impressed many as they secured a La Liga return over the summer, Garcia Pimienta’s men have struggled to make much of an impact this time around. Last seen heading into the international break with a toothless 1-0 defeat at home against Girona, the Yellows find themselves tipped as a leading contender to make an immediate Segunda return. Failing to pick up much momentum over the international break as they were hit with a 1-0 loss against lower-league Atletico Paso in a friendly showdown, the one-time Barcelona boss will be concerned by his side’s extended issues in the final third. Drawing a blank in each of their last four appearances across all competitions, Las Palmas should also be worried by a nightmare record against Sunday’s hosts. Including a 2-1 loss when they last met Sevilla for a La Liga battle back on February 2018, it is worth highlighting that Pimienta’s men have lost each of their previous five meetings by an aggregate score of 8-2.
