Bitesize Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday vs Cardiff – 23/12/23

Competition: Championship

Market: Sheffield Wednesday win

Odds: 6/5 @ 1xBet

Hoping to extend on their recent flurry this weekend, Sheffield Wednesday will welcome Cardiff to Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, while Sheffield Wednesday might have marked their Championship return in the midst of a public nightmare, the Owls have certainly come roaring back. Although they might still face a major uphill battle in their bid to keep hold of their second-tier status, Danny Rohl has made an immediate impact since arriving at Hillsborough back in October. Last seen picking up a 2-1 victory at home against fellow relegation scrappers QPR, the Yorkshire-based outfit have now won three of their previous four appearances. Opening December with a 3-1 romp against Blackburn, Sheffield Wednesday will be smelling the chance to make another statement here. Suffering just a single defeat in their last five outings, Rohl’s side will also be excited by their recent success on home soil. Along with winning back-to-back showdowns at Hillsborough by an aggregate score of 5-2, it should also be noted that the Owls have lost just a single contest in front of their own supporters since way back on September 29th.

As for the visitors, while Cardiff might have come flying out of the traps when opening up the 2023/24 campaign, Erol Bulut’s men are desperately seeking a recent boost. Last seen putting in a nightmare display as they slumped to a 3-0 drumming at the hands of Hull, the Blues have now lost four of their previous five Championship appearances. Opening December with a routine 2-0 defeat against Southampton, the one-time Fenerbahce boss will have a mounting headache over his side’s extended issues in the final third. In fact, Cardiff have bagged just a single Championship strike in over 450 minutes and they have also drawn back-to-back blanks on the road. Slipping down the table and now sat six points adrift of breaking into the play-off places, Saturday’s guests should face another tricky test here. Given what has been a huge recent gulf in class, we are backing a home draw no bet this weekend.
