Competition: Championship

Looking to make an immediate return to winning ways on Friday night, Sunderland will travel to Hillsborough when they meet Sheffield Wednesday.
Starting with the hosts, while Sheffield Wednesday might have secured a Championship return for this season, it is no secret that the Owls are enduring a public second-tier nightmare. Last seen putting in another woeful display as they slumped to a routine 3-0 drumming at the hands of Swansea, Xisco Munoz already has a huge amount of pressure on his shoulders at Hillsborough. Sat rock-bottom of the Championship table and rightfully tipped as a standout contender to make an immediate League One return, the one-time Watford boss has a major uphill struggle on his hands. Crashing out of the EFL Cup on August 29th following a shock penalties defeat at home against Mansfield, Friday’s hosts have also failed to win any of their opening eight second-tier appearances. Likewise, putting just a pair of points on the board from a possible 24, Wednesday should be bracing themselves for another tough test here. It should also be highlighted, Munoz’s side have bagged just one goal from their previous four Championship contests.
As for the visitors, putting in a flat performance last weekend as they suffered a 1-0 loss at home against Cardiff, there is no doubt that Sunderland will be seeking an immediate response here. Despite suffering play-off heartbreak last season, it is no secret that the Black Cats have their sights firmly set on mounting another top-six charge this time around. While Tony Mowbray’s side might have watched their three-match winning run come to an abrupt end last time out, the former Blackburn boss should find the mood in his camp at a continued high. Heading into September’s international break with a famous performance at the Stadium of Light as they cruised their way to a 5-0 romp against Southampton, Sunderland will be smelling the chance to make another play-off statement here. Losing just one of their previous six Championship showdowns, Mowbray’s side have also caught the eye with their recent performances on the road. Landing back-to-back 3-1 victories against Blackburn and QPR respectively, we are backing an away draw no bet here.
