Competition: Europa League
Market: Goal to be scored in both halves
Odds: 10/11 @ Pribet
In what could prove to be an enjoyable Europa League showdown on Thursday night, Fenerbahce will travel to Slavia Prague.
Starting with the hosts, while Slavia Prague might have got their Europa League adventure underway with a 2-0 win away at Ludogorets, Jindrich Trpisovsky’s men have failed to put another European victory on the board from any of their previous three consecutive appearances. Nevertheless, despite their recent struggles on the European stage, the Czech giants have only continued on another domestic romp. Heading into November’s international break with a dominant 5-1 romp against Karvina, the Slavists laid down another marker over the weekend. Storming their way to a 4-0 romp away at Ceske Budejovice, Thursday’s hosts have continued to shine with their free-scoring performances in the final third. Along with notching nine goals in their back-to-back domestic victories, Slavia Prague have also recorded at least a trio of goals in four of their last six outings across all fronts. It should also be noted, along with winning all of their previous three appearances at the Fortuna Arena by an aggregate score of 10-2, they have also won 10 of their first 11 home fixtures so far this season.
As for the visitors, marking their return from November’s international break with an action-packed 6-2 victory away at Kayserispor, Fenerbahce will be desperately seeking a repeat performance here. Last seen in Europa League action falling to a 3-1 drumming away at Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar, Jose Mourinho’s men will be more than aware that they have plenty of pressure on their shoulders in midweek. Sat five points adrift of arch-rivals Galatasaray in the race to claim a first domestic crown since 2014, the former Manchester United boss has faced some real critics since arriving in Istanbul. Nevertheless, heading into November’s fortnight interval with a routine 4-0 romp at home against Sivasspor, the Turkish giants have found a real clinical edge in the final third. Including a pulsating 3-2 win away at Trabzonspor earlier in the month, Fenerbahce have recorded at least a pair of goals in 11 of their last 15 appearances across all competitions. However, crashing out of the Europa Conference League back in February 2022 following a 6-4 aggregate defeat, Mourinho’s side could have another tough challenge on their hands.
