Competition: MLS
Market: Both teams to score
Odds: 4/6 @ Pribet
Looking to make another statement in midweek and extend on their recent purple patch, Real Salt Lake will travel to Children’s Mercy Park in the early hours of Thursday.
Starting with the hosts, while Sporting Kansas might have opened July with a stellar 3-0 romp against Vancouver, Peter Vermes’ side have continued to struggle with their consistency since opening the 2023 campaign. Suffering last-gasp heartbreak away at Houston over the weekend as they eventually had to settle for an action-packed 2-2 draw, the Wizards have mustered just a single win from any of their last five MLS appearances. Battling outside the play-off places and facing what could be a real uphill struggle in the Western Conference, Sporting should also be worried by a downbeat record against Thursday’s guests. It should be highlighted, Vermes’ men have recorded just a sole win against RSL from their previous six attempts – a run that stems back to November 2020. Gaining a reputation for their lively outcomes, it is also worth noting that Kansas have seen four of their last six showdowns at Children’s Mercy Park finish with both teams getting on the scoresheet.
As for the visitors, putting in another rampant display last weekend as they cruised their way to a stunning 4-0 romp at home against Orlando, Real Salt Lake are enjoying what has been a remarkable purple patch. Riding what has been a major wave of momentum, the Claret and Cobalt are unbeaten in each of their previous eight domestic appearances across all competitions. Marking their return from June’s international break with a 3-1 victory away at St. Louis, Pablo Mastroeni’s side will be smelling the chance to make another statement here. Likewise, extending on their US Open Cup adventure thanks to a 3-2 win against LA Galaxy last month, RSL have certainly gained a real reputation for their free-scoring performances in the final third. Including a 2-1 win away at DC United on June 17th, Real Salt Lake have notched 17 strikes on their eight-match unbeaten romp. In what could be a frantic affair in the early hours of Thursday, we are backing both teams to find the net here.
