Competition: Ligue 1
Market: Monaco win
Odds: 5/6 @ 888sport
Smelling a golden chance to lay down another marker this weekend, Monaco will make the trip to the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard when they meet St. Etienne.
Starting with the hosts, while St. Etienne might have been last seen snatching an action-packed point against Bordeaux, they are still firmly at the heart of a relegation scrap. Enduring what has been a hugely downbeat campaign at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, Head Coach Pascal Dupraz knows that his side will face another huge task here. Opening this weekend’s fixtures sat down in 18th and with the feel of a side really seeking some stability, Les Verts have managed to win just one of their previous six Ligue 1 outings, a run that stems back to February 6th. With their recent issues highlighted by a woeful 6-2 drumming away at Lorient earlier in the month, St. Etienne have continued to struggle at the back. Already shipping 64 top-flight strikes this season, they hold the second-worst defensive tally in Ligue 1.
As for the visitors, while Monaco might have shown some real issues earlier in the season, it appears that the Monégasques are really enjoying life under Philippe Clement. Last seen putting in another impressive display as they picked up a 1-0 victory against Nice on home soil, they now have their sights firmly set on clinching another European finish this season. Enjoying what has become quite the purple patch, the former Club Brugge boss has seen his side win each of their last five Ligue 1 contests on the spin. With their stellar run of form underlined by a shock 3-0 romp against runaway leaders PSG last month, Monaco will also be boosted by a rather rampant record against St. Etienne. Storming their way to a 3-1 victory when Saturday’s opponents faced off back in September, we’re backing a similar outcome here.
