Competition: Irish Premier Division
Market: St. Patrick’s Athletic win
Odds: 3/5 @ BetUS
Hoping to secure back-to-back Premier Division victories this weekend, St. Patrick’s will welcome Cork City to Richmond Park on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, while St. Patrick’s might have entered June’s international break with a disappointing 2-1 loss away at Drogheda, Jon Daly’s men have certainly proven that performance was nothing more than a minor blip. Putting in a rampant display last weekend as they breezed their way to a 7-0 romp against relegation scrappers UC Dublin, the Saints have continued to impress many across Ireland this season. Remarkably sat second in the standings and holding a three-point buffer from slipping out of the European places, the Dublin-based outfit have now lost just one of their previous eight showdowns against Premier Division opposition. With that extended flurry stemming all the way back to May 15th, St. Patrick’s will certainly be looking to make another statement here. Including a stellar 4-1 victory against Derry last month, it should also be noted that Daly’s side have continued to shine on home soil. In fact, on what has become a remarkable flurry, Friday’s hosts have won each of their last five straight appearances at Richmond Park.
As for the visitors, although Cork might have found themselves enjoying their own eye-catching flurry prior to June’s international break, the Rebel Army have once again started to stutter. Despite being last seen snatching a downbeat 1-1 draw at home against Drogheda, that is the only point that interim boss Liam Buckley has seen his temporary squad muster from their previous three Premier Division appearances. With that run highlighted by a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Derry when returning from the fortnight interval, Cork find themselves at the heart of a relegation scrap. Opening Friday’s showdown at Richmond Park sat two points adrift in the relegation play-off spot, Buckley’s struggling squad will face another stern challenge here. Gaining a reputation for their extended issues on the road, it should be noted that the Greens have lost six of their previous seven showdowns away from Turners Cross – a run that stems back to a 2-2 draw against Sligo way back on March 11th.
