Competition: League Two
Market: Stevenage win
Odds: 10/11 @ 888sport
Two sides who are battling it out at the top of the League Two table, Stevenage will welcome Barrow to Broadhall Way on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Stevenage might have only just clung to their Football League status last season, Steve Evans’ side have certainly put those issues behind them. Putting in a routine display last weekend as they extended on their FA Cup adventure thanks to a 3-0 victory away at King’s Lynn, the former Gillingham boss has seen his high-flying squad gain a string of plaudits. Opening Friday’s fixtures holding a commanding six-point buffer from dropping out of the automatic promotion places, the Reds have lost just one of their previous eight appearances across all formats. Likewise, claiming an action-packed 3-2 win against Arsenal’s U21st on November 22nd, Stevenage have found a recent clinical edge in the final third. However, it should be highlighted, Evans’ side have seen three of their last four contests at Broadhall finish with both teams finding the net.
As for the visitors, while Barrow might still have their sights set on clinching a shock play-off spot this season, the Bluebirds are in the midst of what has been a recent rut. Last seen on November 22nd when getting hit with an action-packed 3-2 loss against Bolton on EFL Trophy duties, Pete Wild’s men have lost three of their last four matchups across all formats. With their struggles underlined by back-to-back 1-0 defeats against Mansfield and Crawley last month, Barrow have the feel of a side seeking a boost. Likewise, knowing that they face a tough task on Friday night, the Cumbria-based outfit have shown some rather glaring struggles on the road. In fact, the former Oldham boss has seen his side record just a single point from any of their previous five showdowns away from Holker Street. Given the recent gulf in class, we’re backing a home victory here.
