Hoping to make up some ground in the European chase, Reims will travel to a struggling Strasbourg on Sunday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, putting in yet another worrying performance last weekend as they signed off November with a routine 3-1 loss away at Brest, Strasbourg find themselves at the heart of a real wobble. With it suggested that Liam Rosenior has some mounting pressure on his shoulders, Le Racing are desperately seeking a much-needed boost. However, heading into November’s fortnight interval with another 3-1 defeat at the hands of Monaco, the former Hull boss has seen his squad lose each of their previous four Ligue 1 appearances. Losing those four consecutive showdowns by an aggregate score of 10-3, the Blues have continued to show some glaring defensive issues. Despite securing an essential 3-1 victory against Nantes back on October 27th, Strasbourg have failed to muster a single Ligue 1 clean sheet in any of their previous seven appearances. Coming under real scrutiny last month as they suffered a shock 2-0 defeat against St. Etienne, Sunday’s hosts have also shipped at least a pair of goals in six of their previous seven top-flight outings.
As for the visitors, while Reims might have entered November’s international break with a thumping 3-0 victory away at Le Havre, it appears that might have just been a minor boost for Luka Elsner’s camp. Falling to a 2-0 loss at home against Lens last weekend, the Reds have quickly come tumbling out of the European spots and they are seeking a much-needed response here. However, signing off October with a 2-1 defeat against Brest, Sunday’s guests have recorded just a single victory from any of their previous six Ligue 1 appearances. With that extended wobble stemming all the way back to an action-packed 4-2 win against Montpellier on October 6th, Reims are seeking their own stability at the back. In fact, the former Amiens boss has seen his squad register just a single top-flight clean sheet from any of their first 13 appearances. Despite smelling a potential opportunity here, Elsner’s side will be concerned by their most recent trip to Sunday’s hosts. It should be noted, Reims slumped to a 3-1 defeat when they last travelled to Strasbourg back in April.
