Two Australian heavyweights who will be looking to pick up a semi-final first-leg advantage on Friday morning, Sydney will welcome Melbourne City to the Allianz Stadium.

Starting with the hosts, mounting what was a stunning second-half comeback away at bitter local rivals WS Wanderers last week, Sydney are riding what has been a stellar recent wave of momentum. Eventually punching their semi-final ticket thanks to a 2-1 victory away from the Allianz, Steve Corica’s men have won each of their last four appearances – a run that stems back to April 7th. With their recent purple patch highlighted by a 4-1 romp against Perth last month, the Sky Blues have really found a clinical edge in the final third. Notching 10 strikes on their four-match winning run, Sydney will be calling on attack talisman Adam Le Fondre to spearhead their charge on Friday morning. Once again finding the net on play-off duties last week, the one-time Bolton striker has now found the net in each of his last five straight appearances. It’s also worth noting, the 36-year-old has notched eight strikes in his previous nine A-League contests.

As for the visitors, storming their way to another A-League crown this season, Melbourne have also found top gear at a crucial time of the season. Last seen signing off their regular-campaign run with an action-packed 3-2 win against the Western Sydney Wanderers on April 28th, Radon Vidosic’s side are unbeaten in each of their previous eight appearances. However, knowing that they should face a heavyweight challenge when they travel to the Allianz Stadium on Friday morning, the one-time Wellington coach will have a headache over Melbourne’s extended defensive issues. In fact, the Heart have remarkably failed to muster a single clean sheet from any of their last 14 straight outings – a run that stems all the way back to a 0-0 stalemate against Brisbane on January 21st. Likewise, signing off their campaign with just one win from their final five A-League contests away from AAMI Park, Vidosic’s side will be hoping to make an early first-leg statement at the Allianz here.

Bet: Adam Le Fondre to score anytime Melbourne City 21/10 for Friday’s A-League showdown @ 888sport
