Competition: National League
Market: Gateshead win
Odds: 19/20 @ BetUS
Looking to move within touching distance of top spot in the National League table, Gateshead will travel to Tamworth on Tuesday night.
Starting with the hosts, storming their way to a National League return last season, Tamworth are desperate to keep hold of their fifth-tier status this time around. However, although Andy Peaks’ side might have secured three consecutive victories last month, the Lambs have largely come crashing back down to earth. Suffering a worrying second-half collapse away at Halifax over the weekend as they eventually fell to an action-packed 3-2 defeat, the Midlands-based outfit should have another tricky test on their hands here. Signing off September with a 2-1 loss at the hands of Altrincham, Tamworth know the importance of finding some crucial defensive steel. Hit with an infamous 7-0 drumming away at Barnet on August 31st, Peaks’ side have registered just a sole National League clean sheet from any of their first 12 appearances. It should also be noted, Tuesday’s hosts have seen four of their opening five showdowns at the Lamb Ground finish with both teams finding the net.
As for the visitors, while Gateshead might have suffered major play-off heartbreak last season, the Tynesiders certainly haven’t shown any signs of a hangover. Flying out of the traps since opening up the new campaign and once again pencilled in as a leading top-six contender, the midweek guests find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high. Knowing that three points on Tuesday night would move them within striking distance of top spot, they have suffered just a single defeat from any of their first 13 appearances across all competitions. Signing off September with a stellar 3-1 romp away at Southend, Gateshead have won all of their previous four showdowns by an aggregate score of 7-1. Looking to lay down another marker here, Gateshead have also continued to impress with their rugged performances at the back. In fact, the Tyneside’s have conceded just a single goal in over 360 minutes of action.
