In what could prove to be a cagey affair from BMO Field in midweek, Toronto will welcome New York Red Bulls to town in the early hours of Thursday.
Starting with the hosts, coming off the back of yet another downbeat display last weekend, Toronto find themselves in the midst of a real MLS struggle. Once again battling it out at the foot of the Eastern Conference standings and tipped as a real underdog contender in the race to clinch a play-off ticket in 2023, Bob Bradley has found plenty of pressure on his shoulders over recent times. Eventually getting hit with a routine 2-0 loss away at Montreal a few days ago, the one-time Swansea boss has seen his side lose each of their last three domestic appearances. With that run highlighted by a 2-0 defeat at home against New England on May 6th, fans around BMO Field will have a growing headache over their side’s extended struggle in the final third. It should be noted, Toronto have scored just a single goal in over 300 minutes of domestic action.
As for the visitors, putting in a gritty display last weekend as they secured a 1-0 victory against bitter local rivals NYCFC, the Red Bulls are now hoping to find some stability. Extending on their US Open Cup adventure on May 9th thanks to another 1-0 win against DC United, Troy Lesesne’s side have secured back-to-back domestic victories for the first time since the middle of February. However, although the MLS giants might be desperate to make another Eastern Conference marker in midweek, they too have shown some extended struggles in front of goal. Opening May with a 1-0 loss at home against Philadelphia, it should be highlighted that New York have failed to muster more than a single strike in any of their previous nine appearances – a run that stems back to March 18th. Likewise, with three of the last four meetings between Thursday’s opponents finishing with under 2.5 goals, we are backing a similar outcome here.
Bet: Under 2.5 goals at Toronto FC vs New York Red Bulls 8/11 for Thursday’s MLS matchup @ 888sport
