Competition: Irish First Division
Market: Wexford double chance
Odds: 1/2 @ BetUS
Hoping to widen their buffer in the play-off places on Friday night, Wexford will travel to Markets Field when they meet Treaty United.
Starting with the hosts, while Treaty might have claimed a much-needed 3-1 win against Kerry last month, it appears that might have just been a minor boost for Tommy Barrett’s men. Last seen putting in another worrying display as they slumped to a 1-0 loss away at Cobh Ramblers, the Shannonsiders have gained a reputation for their extended inconsistencies. Facing what is an uphill battle in their bid to claim a play-off ticket this season, the Limerick-based outfit have managed to claim just a single First Division victory from any of their last 10 straight appearances across all competitions – a run that stems all the way back to July 7th. With their recent issues underlined by a 3-0 drumming at the hands of Galway on August 7th, Treaty should also be concerned by their continued inconsistencies on home soil. In fact, Friday’s hosts have recorded just one win from any of their last nine showdowns at Markets Field. With that downbeat rut in Limerick stemming all the way back to May 5th, Barrett’s men should face another stern examination here.
As for the visitors, while Wexford might have been last seen suffering last-gasp heartbreak at home against the Finn Harps as they eventually had to settle for a 1-1 stalemate, the mood in the Youths’ camp should be at a real high. Sat firmly in pole position to clinch a play-off ticket this season, James Keddy’s side will be desperate to widen their buffer in the top-five chase here. Mustering 10 points from their last four First Division appearances, the Crossabeg-based outfit should be smelling the chance to lay down another promotion marker on Friday night. With their eye-catching flurry highlighted by a 2-0 win away at Athlone last month, it should also be noted that Wexford have lost just one of their previous nine matchups across all competitions. With that run stemming all the way back to July 7th, Keddy’s men will also be excited by their most recent meeting against Treaty. Landing a 1-0 win when they welcomed Friday’s hosts to town back on July 28th, we are backing an away double chance this weekend.
