Looking to build off of their European success from earlier in the week, Marseille will make the trip to the Stade de l’Aube on Sunday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, while Troyes might have stormed their way back to Ligue 1 last year, Head Coach Bruno Irles finds his side in a real struggle to maintain their top-flight status. Putting in another woeful display last weekend and hit with a 4-1 drumming away at Rennes, the Blues find just their goal difference keeping them outside the bottom-three. With their recent issues highlighted by a remarkable 5-1 defeat against Brest on the road earlier in the month, Sunday’s hosts have managed to win just one of their previous 10 matchups across all formats. With their recent nightmare run of form stemming all the way back to December 1st, Troyes should be bracing themselves for a stern test here. Likewise, it should be noted that Irles’ side suffered a deserved 1-0 loss when they faced off against the French giants back in November.
As for the visitors, managing to extend on their Europa Conference League adventure thanks to a 3-0 romp away at Qarabag earlier in the week, Marseille should be smelling another golden chance here. Despite suffering that shock 2-0 loss at home against Clermont last weekend, Head Coach Jorge Sampaoli has seen his side win three of their last four matchups across all formats. Still battling it out at the top of the Ligue 1 table, Les Phocéens are sat in pole position to clinch a Champions League spot this year. Looking to lay down a marker away from the Stade Vélodrome here, Marseille should also be boosted by a rather rampant record against Sunday’s hosts. Including that 1-0 win earlier in the season, Sampaoli’s men are unbeaten in their last six straight meetings against the relegation scrappers.
