Hoping to extend their stay in the top-half of the Serie A table, Udinese will welcome Empoli to the Bluenergy Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, while Udinese might have shown some real signs of a struggle on either side of Italy’s festive break, the Little Zebras have enjoyed somewhat of a boost since opening February. Coming from behind last weekend as they snatched a shock 1-1 stalemate away at Serie A leaders Napoli, Kosta Runjaic’s men have collected four points from their back-to-back appearances over the past fortnight. Claiming what was an action-packed 3-2 victory against Venezia earlier in the month, Sunday’s hosts open this weekend’s fixtures battling it out in the top-half of the table. Looking to collect just a second Serie A victory at the Bluenergy Stadium since the end of October, Udinese’s attacking talisman could have a leading role to play here. Making an immediate impact after arriving from Pisa last summer, Lorenzo Lucca has continued to attract plenty of European interest. Along with notching four goals in his last seven outings, the 24-year-old has also registered nine Serie A strikes this season.
As for the visitors, although Empoli might have clung to their Serie A status last season, Sunday’s guests have another real battle on their hands in 2025. At the heart of another relegation scrap, Roberto D’Aversa’s side open this weekend’s fixtures holding just a one-point buffer from slipping into the drop zone. Getting February underway with a routine 4-1 drumming away at Juventus, the Blues have collected just two points from any of their previous nine consecutive Serie A appearances. With their recent struggles highlighted by a 3-1 loss at home against Lecce on January 11th, Empoli have continued to gain a reputation for their glaring defensive issues. Signing off 2-024 with a 2-1 defeat against Genoa, the former Sampdoria manager has seen his downbeat squad ship 20 goals on their nine-match winless rut. Likewise, D’Aversa’s camp have also concede 11 goals in just their last four top-flight showdowns outside of Tuscany.
