Competition: World Cup qualifying
Market: Argentina win
Odds: 13/10 @ 888sport
In what is a heavyweight showdown this weekend, Uruguay will welcome Argentina to the Estadio Campeón del Siglo late on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Uruguay might have managed to sign off September’s international break with a much-needed boost, La Celeste have once again shown a host of issues. Despite still hanging onto their spot in fifth-place, Head Coach Óscar Tabárez saw his side endure a nightmare run of form last month. Including getting hit with a 3-0 drumming when they faced off against Friday’s guests, the Sky Blues were also last seen suffering a 4-1 loss at the hands of Brazil on October 15tth. Managing to muster just a single point from any of their last three qualifying matchups, Uruguay find themselves firmly looking over their shoulder. Showing some continued problems at both ends of the pitch, it should also be noted that this weekend’s hosts have won just a pair of their last seven matchups across all formats, a run that stems back to June.
As for the visitors, while Uruguay might find themselves in the midst of a recent struggle, Argentina are really cruising their way to next year’s World Cup finals. Although the south American giants might be sat six points adrift of bitter rivals Brazil and top spot, La Albiceleste are enjoying a purple patch. Last seen on international duties landing a deserved 1-0 victory against Peru on home soil, Head Coach Lionel Scaloni has been filled with praise for his side’s recent displays. Including that thumping 3-0 win when they faced off against Friday’s hosts on October 11th, Argentina are yet to taste defeat from any of their qualifying contests this year. Smelling a real chance to lay down another marker this weekend, it’s also worth highlighting that Scaloni’s squad are unbeaten in each of their previous six meetings against Uruguay.
