Competition: Eredivisie
Market: Utrecht win
Odds: 2/3 @ Pribet
Looking to extend on their Eredivisie purple patch on Sunday lunchtime, Utrecht will welcome Sittard to the Stadion Galgenwaard.
Starting with the hosts, extending on their KNVB Beker adventure earlier in the week and punching their quarter-final ticket thanks to a sensational 8-0 romp against third-tier outfit Amsterdamsche, Ron Jans’ men have cemented their spot as Holland’s ultimo surprise package this season. Continuing to receive a string of plaudits from across the continent, the former Twente boss should find the mood in his camp at a red-hot high. Battling it out at the top of the Eredivisie table and opening this weekend’s fixtures with just their goal difference keeping them behind Dutch icons Ajax, Utrecht will be looking to make another statement here. Marking their return from November’s International break with a 2-1 victory away at Nijmegen, Sunday’s hosts have suffered just a single defeat from any of their last nine domestic appearances across all competitions. With that extended flurry stemming all the way back to October 27th, Utrecht have also impressed with their free-scoring performances. In fact, Jans’ side have have notched 20 goals in just their previous six showdowns.
As for the visitors, while Sittard might have secured a much-welcomed boost last weekend as they clinched a dramatic 3-2 victory against Waalwijk, Danny Buijs’ men came crashing back down to earth a few days ago. Watching their respective KNVB Beker adventure come to an abrupt end in midweek as they fell to a shock 3-1 loss against third-tier outfit Quick Boys, the former Groningen boss has seen his squad muster just a single victory from any of their previous six domestic appearances across all competitions. Heading into November’s international break with another 3-1 defeat against Zwolle, Sittard have shown some glaring defensive issues. Including a 2-1 loss at home against Twente last month, Buijs’ men have put just a single clean sheet on the board since the end of October. Likewise, opening December with a 2-2 stalemate against Heracles, the Yellows have shipped 13 goals in their last six consecutive outings. It should also be noted, Sittard fell to a 4-0 drumming when they last travelled to Utrecht back in February.
