Competition: La Liga

Market: Valencia win

Odds: 3/4 @ BetUS

Hoping to make another La Liga statement on Friday night, Valencia will welcome Las Palmas to the Mestalla when this weekend’s fixtures get underway.

Starting with the hosts, only just clinging to their La Liga status last season and coming under a huge amount of scrutiny, it is no secret that Valencia are seeking some much-needed stability this time around. However, although the Bats might still be dealing with some public financial issues behind the scenes at the Mestalla, Ruben Baraja’s men certainly opened the 2023/24 campaign with a stellar performance on the road. Laying down a shock marker as they claimed a 2-1 victory against reigning Europa League champions Sevilla, Les Chesterfields will be desperate to make another top-flight statement here. Enjoying an eye-catching pre-season flurry, Valencia will also be excited by their extended success on home soil. Along with signing off last season with a 2-1 victory against Spanish icons Real Madrid, it should be highlighted that Baraja’s side have suffered just a single defeat at the Mestalla since way back on February 11th.

As for the visitors, making their La Liga return this season and gaining a string of plaudits, it is no secret that the Pirates simply have their sights set on avoiding an immediate Segunda drop. However, although Garcia Primlenta’s men might have opened the 2023/24 campaign with a hard-fought 1-1 stalemate against Mallorca on home soil, the Yellows are tipped to find themselves at the heart of a relegation scrap this time around. Signing off their pre-season preparations with a 3-0 loss at the hands of German giants RB Leipzig, the former Barcelona coach will know that his squad faces a real challenge on Friday night. Rightfully tipped as an underdog pick this weekend, Las Palmas should also be concerned by their most recent trip to the Mestalla. Slumping to a routine 4-0 drumming while on Copa del Rey duties back in January 2018, we are expecting a similar home victory here.
