Competition: Copa do Brasil

Market: Vasco win

Odds: 8/11 @ BetUS

With a spot in the quarter-finals of this year’s Copa do Brasil hanging in the balance, Vasco will welcome Atletico GO to the Sao Januario in the early hours of Wednesday.

Starting with the hosts, snatching what was a sensational last-gasp equaliser when they travelled to Atletico GO for their first-leg showdown on August 1st, Vasco will be smelling a real opportunity here. Although Rafael Paiva’s men might have failed to muster a single victory from any of their previous four domestic appearances across all competitions, they have made plenty of improvements since opening up the 2024 campaign. Battling it out in the chase to snatch a Copa Sudamericana ticket this season, the former Palmeiras coach will be excited by his side’s extended success on home soil. Opening July with a routine 2-0 win against Fortaleza, Vasco are unbeaten in all of their previous six consecutive showdowns at the Sao Januario – a run that stems back to June 2nd. With that purple patch underlined by a stunning 4-1 romp against Sao Paulo on June 23rd, Paiva’s camp are pencilled in as a standout contender here.

As for the visitors, left heartbroken at the Antonio Accioly last week as they eventually had to settle for a 1-1 stalemate, Atletico GO appear to have a real uphill battle on their hands here. Failing to pick up any kind of momentum last weekend as they slumped to a nightmare 4-1 drumming at home against Brazilian giants Botafogo, Vagner Mancini’s men sit rock-bottom of the Serie A table and tipped as a leading relegation contender in 2024. Only mustering 12 points from any of their 21 battles against top-flight opposition this season, Wednesday’s guests have also failed to win any of their previous 12 appearances across all competitions. With that extended rut stemming back to June 16th, the Dragons have also shown some glaring defensive issues. Signing off July with a 2-0 loss at the hands of Flamengo, Atletico GO have failed to muster a single clean sheet over the past six weeks.
