Competition: Brazil Serie B

Market: Vitoria win

Odds: 4/5 @ Pribet

Looking to clinch back-to-back Serie B victories late on Friday night, Vitoria will welcome a struggling Botafogo to the Barradao.

Starting with the hosts, making an immediate return to winning ways last weekend thanks to a gritty 1-0 victory at home against Ceara, Vitoria should be smelling the chance to make another statement here. Continuing to gain a string of plaudits this season and with their sights firmly set on clinching a top-flight return in 2023, Leo Conde’s men hold a three-point buffer from slipping out of the promotion places. Knowing that another victory on Friday night would see them climb to the top of the Serie B standings, the Colossal should find the mood in their camp at a real high. Opening August with a routine 2-0 win against ABC, Conde’s men have lost just one of their last seven second-tier appearances – a run that stems back to July 2nd. It should also be noted, holding a fearsome reputation for their extended success at the Barradao. In fact, including a 2-1 victory against Sampaio Correa last month, Vitoria have won each of their last five straight home fixtures by an aggregate score of 8-2.

As for the visitors, while Botafogo might have also been dreaming of the chance to mount a shock top-four charge this season, the Panthers are enduring a recent wobble. Last seen putting in another toothless display as they had to settle for a 0-0 stalemate at home against Ponte Preta, Adilson Batista’s men have struggled to find any kind of stability. With their recent issues highlighted by a worrying 2-0 loss at the hands of Juventude on July 29th, the Sao Paulo-based outfit are without a win from any of their previous four Serie B appearances. Likewise, knowing that they face a stern test when they make the trip to the Barradao this weekend, Friday’s guests have also shown some extended problems in the final third. In fact, Botafogo have failed to muster a single goal on their four-match winless run. Sliding down the Serie B standings and hit with a 3-0 drumming when they welcomed Vitoria to town back on May 6th, we are expecting a similar outcome here.
