Bitesize Prediction: Watford vs Cardiff City – 19/04/23

Competition: Championship

Market: Watford win

Odds: 1/1 @ 888sport

Looking to claim back-to-back Championship victories on Wednesday night, Watford will welcome Cardiff to Vicarage Road.

Starting with the hosts, managing to make what was a much-welcomed return to winning ways over the weekend, Watford will now be desperate to find some Championship stability. Eventually picking up a 2-0 victory at home against Bristol City, Chris Wilder’s side drew a line under their four-match winless run. Knowing that they face a real uphill battle if they’re to snatch a play-off spot this season, the former Sheffield United boss faces what could be a must-win showdown on Wednesday night. Although the Hornets might have shown some extended issues away from Vicarage Road this year, the midweek hosts have largely impressed in front of their own supporters. Including their 2-0 win against Bristol City a few days ago, Wilder’s side have lost just one of their previous nine straight appearances in Hertfordshire – a run that stems all the way back to Boxing Day. Despite showing some extended inconsistencies, Watford are rightfully tipped as a standout contender here.

As for the visitors, while Cardiff might have claimed a crucial 3-1 victory away at Blackpool earlier in the month, it appears that was just a minor boost for Sabri Lamouchi’s downbeat squad. Last seen over the weekend putting in another worrying display as they were hit with a 4-1 drumming at the hands of Sheffield United, the Blues find themselves firmly at the heart of a relegation scrap. Opening the midweek fixtures with just their goal difference keeping them outside of the drop zone, the one-time Nottingham Forest boss has seen his side win just one of their last six Championship outings. Marking their return from March’s international break with an action-packed 3-2 loss at home against bitter local rivals Swansea, Cardiff should also be worried by their most recent meeting against Watford. Suffering a 2-1 loss when they welcomed the Hornets to south Wales for their reverse meeting on November 2nd, we are expecting a similar outcome here.

Bet: Watford 1/1 to beat Cardiff City in Wednesday’s Championship battle @ 888sport
