Competition: EFL Cup

Market: Watford win

Odds: 8/11 @ Pribet

Looking to extend on their purple patch on Tuesday night, Watford will welcome Plymouth to Vicarage Road when they turn their attention back to EFL Cup action.

Starting with the hosts, while Watford might have limped their way over the finishing line last season as they eventually had to settle for a bottom-half finish, the Hornets have come roaring back in a sensational fashion. Opening proceedings with an action-packed 3-2 victory away at Millwall, Tom Cleverley’s men find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high. Extending on their EFL Cup adventure earlier in the month thanks to a stellar 5-0 romp against MK Dons, the one-time Manchester United midfielder has seen his squad gain a string of plaudits. Extending on their purple patch over the weekend as they snatched a 2-1 win at home against Derby, Watford have won all of their opening four appearances across all competitions. With that early flurry underlined by a 3-0 victory against Stoke on August 17th, Watford will also be excited by their free-scoring performances in the final third.

As for the visitors, while Plymouth might have appointed Wayne Rooney over the summer, the Pilgrims have struggled to find any kind of stability under the former Birmingham boss. Opening the 2024/25 campaign with a nightmare display away at Sheffield Wednesday as they slumped to an infamous 4-0 drumming at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday, the Devon-based outfit should have another stern challenge on their hands here. Despite extending on their EFL Cup adventure on August 14th thanks to a 3-0 victory against Cheltenham, Tuesday’s guests have failed to win any of their first three showdowns against Championship opposition. It should also be highlighted, continuing on from last season, Plymouth have recorded just a single victory on their travels since the end of February. Given what has been a huge recent gulf in class between Tuesday’s opponents, we are backing a home victory at Vicarage Road in midweek.

Bet: Watford 8/11 to beat Plymouth in Tuesday’s EFL Cup tie @ Pribet
